All libraries have the responsibility to uphold intellectual freedom, the right of people to access and use information. The library believes it is best to allow adults to choose for themselves and for parents to make decisions as they see fit for their children. It is the responsibility of each parent to monitor and provide oversight to their children’s reading material. The library will uphold its users’ right to access and use a variety of information and materials, including information or materials that might be controversial to other people, and will support parental choice in the selection of individual/family member patron selection. ———————————————————————
A patron may complain about a book or other material carried in the library verbally to the librarian. The librarian will go over the collection development policy with the patron. If the patron is still not satisfied, a written complaint will be taken to the governing body, the Library Trustee Board. A complaint form must be filled out by the patron or citizen with a complaint and must be submitted to the librarian to be taken to the next library board meeting, where the board will determine how to handle the complaint.
